Students' Sailing Club Pii
Tampere

Pii

Students' Sailing Club Pii welcomes both beginners and more experienced sailors. Beginners will be lead into the secrets of sailing through courses and introductory sailing trips on the club's own yacht, whereas the more experienced members will have the opportunity to hone their skills and even participate in races from time to time.

The aim of the club is to bring together the students of Tampere area who share an interest in sailing, in addition to which we aim to actively cooperate with other students' sailing clubs. The club organises various courses and events for its members every year, ranging from beginners' courses and introductory sailing trips to navigation courses by Suomen Navigaatioliitto.

The rules can be found on this page (only in Finnish)

Becoming a member

TUT students and postgraduate students who are members of TUrVoKe ry may become actual members of the club. Members of Tamy and Tamko and students of POLAMK can join as parallel members. The actual and parallel members have a vote at the club's meetings. Others may join the club as supporting members. In case you want to join Pii as a new member, pay the membership fee following the instructions below and send an email to piit(at)tut.fi so that you'll be subscribed to the members' mailing list.

Membership fee

The membership fee practice was altered in autumn 2015. The fee for actual members (members of TTYY and TUrVoKe ry) is 5 euros. The fee for parallel (Tamy, Tamko and POLAMK) and supporting members is 7,5 euros. The membership fee covers one academic year at a time. Those student members who have the possibility of being members of TUrVoKe ry (TTYY members) should take care that either the sports fee including the membership fee of TUrVoKe ry or the TUrVoKe ry membership fee (2,5 euros/year) has been paid.

    Courses

The club organises courses on different levels in Finnish. In addition to these there are introductory sailing trips in spring and in autumn.

    Vene

In spring 2011 the club bought its first yacht, keel boat Ida. The yacht is suitable for several types of usage - for training as well as for trips and racing. When the yacht was being considered, the emphasis was especially on its suitability for courses and for sailors with different levels of expertise. The yacht can be skippered by sufficiently experienced skippers approved by the board of Pii

Common sailing trips for members are organised quite often, and skippers may also reserve the yacht for other use. Notifications on the sailing trips will be posted on the mailing list and enrolment generally goes by the "first come, first served" principle. Since the city of Tampere closed piers at the Naistenlahti harbour Ida spends its summers at the Vene-71 harbour in Rauhaniemi instead. The place is easy to reach by pretty much any transportation method chosen by you (if you decide to come by bus, line number 2 is the way to go).
